Requiem by Lauren Oliver

They have tried to squeeze us out, to stamp us into the past.  But we are still here.  And there are more of us every day.

Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has been transformed. The nascent rebellion that was under way in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight.

After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancée of the young mayor.

Maybe we are driven crazy by our feelings.  Maybe love is a disease, and we would be better off without it.  But we have chosen a different road.  And in the end, that is the point of escaping the cure: We are free to choose.  We are even free to choose the wrong thing. (summary by Goodreads)

This book was flat-out amazing. It was the perfect ending to one of my all-time favorite series.

CHARACTERS:
As always, Lena was my favorite characters. She is a strong character that has lost almost everything and she deals with it well. She had a very hard decision to make in choosing between Alex and Julian.
However, I was not the biggest fan of Hana. I did like seeing from her point of view though, because you realize what it's really like to be cured.
I didn't like Julian or Coral at all. I felt like they were just barriers between Alex and Lena.
Speaking of Alex, I loved him. Towards the end of the book, he became the Alex that we know and love again.

PROS:
1. As always, the writing was flawless. It really adds to the overall enjoyment of the book.
2. We get to see 2 points of view. One is from Lena in the Wilds and the other is Hana, who is cured.
3. ALEX!!
4. I know I'm probably one of the only people that liked the ending. It was kind of obvious who Lena chose. It was open-ended enough to leave you with questions, but it still was a good end to the series.

CONS:
1. The book started kind of slow. It started picking up around Chapter 5
2. Lena's mother was not characterized very well, I was hoping to see more of her.

THE ENDING:
I'm going to talk more about the ending because there were so many people that absolutely hated it. I understand that some people may not have liked it because there was not a lot of closure. I thought that that is what made the ending truly great. It still shows who Lena chose and you get to imagine the rest for yourself. You get to think about what happens next.

RATING:
5 out of 5 stars

Overall, this was a great end to one of my all-time favorite series.
