Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner. (summary by Goodreads)

Characters:
Scarlet is a great character. She is gutsy and not afraid to go after what she wants.

Wolf is pretty kick-ass as well. He reminded me a lot of Day from the Legend series. I didn't like that he betrayed Scarlet, but at least he redeemed himself.

I really didn't like Cinder in this book. She wasn't the best character in the first book, but in this one I felt like she just wanted to run from her problems. She annoyed me at times.

Thorne was utterly sarcastic and he made up for Cinder's annoyances.

Kai was also very annoying. We did not get to see a lot of him, but when we did he said how much he hated Cinder and Levana.

Pros:
1. The plot was so fast paced and action-packed. I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire book.
2. Wolf and Scarlet's relationship was awkward at times, but it also ended up being hilarious and filled with betrayal. I definitely want to see more of them in the next book.
3. It reminded me a lot of Legend by Marie Lu  (one of my favorite books)

Cons:
1. I felt like Marissa Meyer told too much from Cinder's point of view. There were many points when I wanted to learn more about Scarlet, not listen to Cinder complain about being the princess.
2. There were an abundance of subplots. I felt like there wasn't enough focus on any of the individual characters' stories.

For Fans of:
The Legend series by Marie Lu and Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

Additional Thoughts:
I enjoyed this book much more than Cinder.

Rating:
4.25 out of 5 stars.
