The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

Luke is the perfect boyfriend: handsome, kind, fun. He and Emaline have been together all through high school in Colby, the beach town where they both grew up. But now, in the summer before college, Emaline wonders if perfect is good enough.

Enter Theo, a super-ambitious outsider, a New Yorker assisting on a documentary film about a reclusive local artist. Theo's sophisticated, exciting, and, best of all, he thinks Emaline is much too smart for Colby.

Emaline's mostly-absentee father, too, thinks Emaline should have a bigger life, and he's convinced that an Ivy League education is the only route to realizing her potential. Emaline is attracted to the bright future that Theo and her father promise. But she also clings to the deep roots of her loving mother, stepfather, and sisters. Can she ignore the pull of the happily familiar world of Colby? (summary by Goodreads)

Sarah Dessen always writes the perfect summer contemporaries and this book did not disappoint.

PROS:
1. This book was not romance driven. While the main character was in two relationships, the story did not take a backs seat to the romance. The romance actually added to the important lessons that are learned over the course of the book.

2. Emaline's family played an important role in her life. Unlike most popular YA novels today, Emaline's family actually played an important role in the story. Her mother was always her number one supporter and was there for her no matter what.

3. The ending of this book was a breath of fresh air. Unlike many popular contemporaries, the ending of this book was not just about who Emaline ended up with. the ending showed how Emaline grew throughout the course of the novel and what she will be like in the future.

4. This book was exactly what I needed right now. Sarah Dessen always manages to write books that are very relatable to teens.

CONS:
1. The story got a bit confusing in the middle, but it was cleared up by the end of the story.

2. Neither of the love interests were particularly interesting.

Overall, this was another great Sarah Dessen novel.
